I visited Jarrow Bowling Club to celebrate the club’s recent national achievements.  I was there to meet with mother & son John & Doreen Lawton, both members at the club, who have become the English Bowls Federation Mixed Pairs Outdoor Champions.

The Bowling Club, located at West Park in Jarrow, has only a small membership, but already has another member who is a national champion – John’s brother and Doreen’s son Alan, who became the Mixed Pairs Indoor Champion back in March.  The club also has four county champions as members.

This is a significant achievement for not just the Lawton family but also the club as a whole.  Given the fact that the club has only a small membership of fourteen bowlers, this achievement becomes even greater.

Having spoken with John & Doreen, I know that they and the other members are very interested in recruiting new members to the club, even if they are completely new to the sport.  Therefore I would suggest that anyone who is interested in becoming a member should contact Alan Jobling on 0796 933 3317.
