I was delighted to table a Parliamentary motion congratulating South Tynesider Joe McElderry on winning this year’s X Factor competition.

The 18 year old, from Westoe, South Shields, was crowned the coveted 2009 X Factor title and a life-changing record contract after winning more votes than his rival Olly Murs.

Joe’s victory was a wonderful story and a fantastic achievement for an extremely talented young man. He is a brilliant ambassador for the North East and his award was fully deserved. I am sure he will go on to great things and join the many fantastic entertainers from our area.
