Operation Christmas Child 2009 |
Recently I was honoured to switch on Jarrow’s Christmas lights with the Mayor of South Tyneside Coun John Anglin which means the run up to the festive season is well and truly underway. This is a particularly special time and many of us will be looking forward to opening our presents and spending time with our friends and family. Unfortunately, not everyone will be happy this Christmas. For example, please take time to think of those children in poorer countries who are not as fortunate as ourselves.

CSV Make A Difference Day |
Some people I talk to nostalgically look back on what they say was the age of community. A time they say when neighbour looked after neighbour and everyone knew everybody in their street and looked out for each other. Since becoming MP I have been fortunate to come across many people who are working hard to rekindle that community spirit. This is epitomised each year by the Shields Gazette’s Pride of South Tyneside Awards in which I have been delighted to take part.

Pleural Plaques update - October 2009 |
The fight for justice for those who suffer from the asbestos related condition pleural plaques has long been a top priority of mine in Parliament. I know that this issue is of great importance to many in this area, as well as other former ship building and ship repair communities across the country.
